Mow Cop Runners was founded in May 2009 and is affiliated to England Athletics for Road, Fell and Cross Country running. The club has grown rapidly and now has around 50 members, mainly from Mow Cop, Scholar Green, Kidsgrove, Biddulph, Congleton, the northern Potteries and surrounding areas.

Our club members run for many reasons: some run to keep fit, do Parkruns, or as a social thing, others want to compete, or maybe do all of these things. We welcome all runners to the club whether slow/fast, beginners, more experienced or super fast! Every year we enter teams in the North Staffs Cross Country League and the British Fell & Hill Running Relay Championships. Members are active in local and national races on all surfaces, road, trails, cross county and fell and mountain running. The only type of running we do not normally do as a club is track.

We have members running all distances from Parkruns and 5k races to Half Marathons, full road Marathons and Ultra Trail Races, including multi day events etc.

Our main club run takes place on Tuesday evenings: 6.55pm or a 7pm start from the COMMUNITY HALL (ST7 3PJ), next to St. Thomas's church, near the old Mow Cop Inn.

There are several groups usually including a 3-4 mile/5-6km slower run, a 4-6 mile/6.5-10km steady run and a 6-8 mile/10-12km run at a faster pace. If it’s your first time out with us, someone will run with you and make sure you are not left behind.

In winter, we usually run on the road; in summer, we head off-road. Come along and give us a try.

The club would like to invite any new runners in the area to beginner sessions meeting at the COMMUNITY HALL (ST7 3PJ) next to St. Thomas's church, on Tuesdays at 6.55pm for a 7pm start. We will help you to build your confidence and mileage over the next few weeks so please feel free to come along and give it a try! If you are a relative beginner, please let us know that you are planning to join us. (Text 07970 681987)
